June 2024 Rides

A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during June 2024.

I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.

I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.

Gö Gravel Omloop Seeburger See Social Ride – June 23 2024

The first Gö Gravel informal ride of the summer and we went See to See, from the Kiessee to the biggest natural lake in the area the Seeburger See.

It was almost a month to the day and during the scouting of this ride that I had my heart attack, and this time I finished the Omloop!!! Hooray!

Danke for their company Andrea, Andres, Ann-Christin, David H, Johannes L, Jonas R, Josh, Kai, Konstantin, Lydia, Max, Nico and Victoria.

Solstice mit Victoria – June 20 2024

As my recovery from my heart attack continues and having played truant from Reha (rehab), Victoria and I rode a variation of the Gö Gravel Paris Roubaix tribute which isn´t hell at all.

It was also the longest day being the Summer Solstice.

Danke Victoria for your wonderful company.

Lifeline in Gö – June 14 2024

Riding with Tom a friend from the Netherlands it was interesting to contrast our bikes, his was a carbon Eddy Merckx and is as light as feather, whilst my ride was extremely different.

The worst thing about life changing events such as a heart attack, is that they are that and your normal is interrupted. When Josh suggested lending me his e-bike gravel machine I was at first sceptical, that´s not proper cycling was on my mind.

The ebike itself is high quality and it has made a strong impression upon me. What I love, is that it takes the strain but does not do all the work. It is heavy and therefore it is far, far less responsive than my normal machines, in fact you don´t so much ride it but point it in the right direction. When riding with people I found it hard to feel what my ride companions were going experiencing, this left me feeling detached from them.

The motor assist saw me pedalling in the two smallest cogs of the cassette much of the time even in Eco Mode and it took some practice to work the gears properly.

My doctor had warned me not to dislodge the newly fitted Stent fitted in my heart artery and with the ebike taking the strain I didn´t do anything too stupid.

I look forward every day to getting back on a proper bike, but in the meantime Josh’s ebike has been a lifeline to a normal life. Danke!

Tom and I stuck to the asphalt, and we included a few hills because being from the Netherlands he rarely gets to take his Eddy upwards.

Stayin´ Alive in Gö – June 2 2024

To quote the Bee Gees

“You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shakin’
And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive.”

My first ride since my heart attack and in the wonderful and loving company of Andrea and Victoria, I can´t believe how lucky I am!

I must admit to being economical with my legs (and heart) because I rode Josh Schenk´s Cannondale E-Bike… A massive hug to him.

We undertook a 40km Feldweg Omloop avoiding much of the wet mud upon the trails caused by recent heavy downpours.
